Starting Strong / Partir du bon pied

The last two weeks I was traveling with my family to the 24-7 Prayer conference in Stuttgart, taking time to read, pray, and reflect. There is much to be thankful for, and you are one of those gifts.

During a breakout with my friend Alain Emerson, a pastor from Northern Ireland, this verse gripped me:

2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

“As one approved” implies testing. As men and as believers, we will inevitably be tested, and the results will show whether we can present ourselves to God as approved. Alain named four areas that God often tests: context, character, capacity, and charism.

A simple way to lean in this week:

• Context: Where has God placed me right now, and am I faithful there?

• Character: What attitude or habit is the Spirit highlighting to refine?

• Capacity: What discipline will help me carry responsibility with joy?

• Charism: How can I use my spiritual gifts to serve someone today?

Ask the Spirit to illuminate where He is allowing testing so that you might grow into the man He is calling you to be. The goal is not first to be a great dad, boss, or husband; the goal is to become more like Christ. As we grow in Him, those roles are transformed.

Ces deux dernières semaines, j’ai voyagé avec ma famille pour la conférence 24-7 Prayer à Stuttgart. J’ai pris du temps pour lire, prier et réfléchir. Il y a tant de sujets de reconnaissance, et vous en faites partie.

2 Timothée 2.15 Efforce-toi de te présenter devant Dieu comme un homme approuvé, un ouvrier qui n’a pas à rougir, qui dispense droitement la parole de la vérité.

L’expression « comme un homme approuvé » suppose l’épreuve. En tant qu’hommes et croyants, nous serons inévitablement éprouvés. Le résultat montrera si nous pouvons nous présenter à Dieu comme approuvés. Mon ami Alain Emerson a nommé quatre domaines souvent testés: contexte, caractère, capacité, charisme.

Cette semaine, mets-le en pratique:

• Contexte: où Dieu m’a-t-Il placé en ce moment, et y suis-je fidèle

• Caractère: quelle attitude ou habitude l’Esprit veut-Il affiner

• Capacité: quelle discipline m’aidera à porter mes responsabilités avec joie

• Charisme: comment utiliser mes dons spirituels pour servir quelqu’un aujourd’hui

Demande à l’Esprit d’éclairer les lieux où Il permet l’épreuve afin que tu grandisses dans l’homme qu’Il t’appelle à devenir. Le but n’est pas d’abord d’être un père, un patron ou un mari « exceptionnel ». Le but est de devenir davantage semblable au Christ. En grandissant en Lui, tout le reste suit.

Que Dieu te bénisse aujourd’hui, mon ami.
