Brothers,

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

I used to think this was an exaggeration—no one can live on bread alone. Then I moved to France and started to wonder if some people were actually trying! But just as Jesus teaches, it isn’t possible—physically or spiritually—at least not for long.

And I think that’s the missing piece: we often try, spiritually, to live on bread alone. We settle for crumbs of Scripture. We gorge on a Sunday and then starve ourselves the rest of the week. We miss out on the daily nutrients of His Word and His presence—the very things meant to sustain us.

May we be men who feed on the Word every day, who let His presence strengthen and shape us.

Looking for a place to start? Feast upon the prayer in Psalm 119, may it provide you with the nourishment your soul desires.
